Strong Start Propels Women's Soccer at Marietta

Marietta, Ohio – Women's soccer moves to 2-0 on the young season after knocking off the host Marietta Pioneers by a final of 2-0.

The Cardinals have won 14 consecutive games against the Pioneers since 2007, last years final was much more decisive in a 5-0 final.

The Cardinals got the night started early when Bella Shivley scored her first of the season just 2:32 into the contest. Anjuli Anderson sent a cross in from just outside the box to record her first collegiate point on the assist. Junior Delaney Earl doubled up the lead at the 25:00-minute mark, her team leading second of the season.

A strong defensive effort anchored by senior goalkeeper Erin Gordon posted its second shutout in as many games, with Gordon making four saves in the full 90 minutes between the pipes.

The Cardinals dominated total shots, firing off 22 but only six were on net. The Pioneers shot just seven times but four of them were on target. Otterbein also held an advantage in corner kick opportunities, doubling up Marietta six to three.

The women will return to the friendly surroundings of Memorial Stadium on Sunday for their home opener with Baldwin Wallace, game time is set for 2 p.m.
