WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team erupted to tie a program record with nine goals in its home opener Sunday at Memorial Stadium, netting seven prior to intermission and ultimately coasting for a 9-2 triumph over Baldwin Wallace.

The Cardinals received goals from six different players, centered around a standout performance from senior Bella Shivley, to remain unbeaten on the spring at 3-0. Baldwin Wallace, which fell just 1-0 at defending champ Ohio Northern in its opener, endures another defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Shivley scored 52 seconds into the match on a lofted ball in the box that bounced over the head of BW's goalkeeper.

  • The Yellow Jackets responded with an equalizer in the seventh minute, keeping things tight until Otterbein exploded midway through the half…

  • The Cardinals scored six goals in a 20-minute span, flying into halftime with a 7-1 lead and never looking back. Myiah Kelley and Delaney Earl both netted two in the outburst.

  • Multiple players worked into the match for Otterbein across the second 45 minutes, with Emerson Woerner and Grace Dunaway adding to the score column.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Shivley had a whopping nine points by halftime, scoring twice and assisting Otterbein's other five goals. She passed Cristen Herold (2007-10) to become the program's all-time assists leader, dished out the most assists in a match by an Ohio Athletic Conference player since 1991, and rested most of the second half.

  • Otterbein's nine goals as a team tied the program record, originally set back in 2015 during a 9-0 victory over Manchester.

  • The Cards finished with a 20-14 shot advantage offensively, and had a combo effort from keepers Erin Gordon and Emma Spinner on the other end.

  • Otterbein beats Baldwin Wallace for a fourth-consecutive time, averaging six goals per victory in the stretch.
