WLAX: Cards Complete Season Sweep of Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – Women's lacrosse found its way back into the win column Saturday afternoon picking up a 13-9 win at Baldwin Wallace. Otterbein completes the season sweep against the Yellow Jackets after winning the first matchup back on February 21st, 17-5.

The Cardinals are now 6-3 overall while Baldwin Wallace falls to just 1-7 on the year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with both goals coming in the first five minutes of action.
     
  • Otterbein answered with back-to-back goals from Emily Willms coming just 38 seconds apart.
     
  • From there the hosts scored two more times with the goals coming a minute apart.
     
  • The Cardinals ended the half on a 6 to 0 run, with another goal coming from Willms and Julia Karas recording a first half hat trick of her own.
     
  • Lauren Newkirk and Cameron Finnegan each added a goal in the half to give the Cards an 8-4 advantage after 30 minutes of play.
     
  • Coming out for the second half it was Baldwin Wallace who struck first, scoring just 1:20 in to pull within three scores.
     
  • The Cards used a 4 to 1 run to pull away before the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net with 21:16 on the clock.
     
  • The back-and-forth pace finally slowed down with neither side scoring until BW netted another at the 11:06 mark.  
     
  • Each side added another score down the stretch but it was Otterbein who was able to hold off the Yellow Jackets for the 13-9 win.
     
THE STATS:
  • Each side fired off 36 shots, but Otterbein put more on target with 32 compared to just 23 for BW.
     
  • The Cards failed to score on any free position shots, going 0 for 3 while the Yellow Jackets converted on 4 of 10.
     
  • The two teams recorded 12 draw controls each, just the third time this season that Otterbein has not held an advantage in the category.
     
  • Leah McNutt played the full game between the pipes making 14 saves, her fifth time making double digit saves this season.
     
UP NEXT:
The Cardinals will gear up for another road trip on Wednesday, this time traveling to Ada for a 7 p.m. game time with Ohio Northern.
