Cardinals Prevail in Physical Battle with Quakers

WILMINGTON, Ohio – A scoreless deadlock at halftime Thursday night quickly turned into another dominant final decision for the Otterbein women's soccer team, which battled through a very physical contest to net four goals in the second half and beat host Wilmington.

The Cardinals remain unscathed on the season at a perfect 6-0, keeping pace atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings with league rivals Ohio Northern and Capital.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • There was good action on both sides during the first half, as goalies Erin Gordon (Otterbein) and Lauren Galloway (Wilmington) combined to make 10 saves. The Cardinals held a 13-6 shot advantage by intermission, but were unable to officially hit the scoreboard.

  • That quickly changed as the second half progressed, as freshman speedster Anjuli Anderson tallied her first-career goal just five minutes after the break off an assist from Bella Shivley.

  • Reigning OAC 'Offensive Player of the Week' Emily Ganz followed with another in the 59th minute, marking four goals in the last three matches and proving that, yes, "she cannnnn score!"

  • The floodgates opened midway through the period, with Shivley scoring at the 65:34 mark (set up by Myiah Kelley) and then Delaney Earl finishing off a pass from Shivley in the 77th minute.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Otterbein weathered some chippy sequences to ultimately post a commanding 28-7 shot margin, including a 15-1 edge into the second half.

  • Shivley finished with four points and continues leading the OAC in assists with eight on the season. No other player in the league has more than two.

  • The Cardinals win their ninth-straight match in the series with Wilmington.
