Big Fourth Inning Pushes Cardinals Past Quakers

BOX SCORE

WILMINGTON, Ohio – After a frustrating doubleheader split on Saturday, and then waiting through a pair of canceled dates leading into the new week, Otterbein finally got back on the baseball diamond Tuesday afternoon with a single road game at Wilmington.

The Cardinals fell behind early, but erupted for a huge fourth inning to fly ahead and never look back. By the final out of the ninth inning, Otterbein walked away with a comfortable 15-6 victory.

Wilmington opened a 5-0 lead after three innings, but Otterbein settled in during its second time through the batting lineup for nine runs in the fourth frame…

Noah Sprowls, making his first varsity start, launched a two-run homer and the Cardinals eventually batted around. RBI hits from Brayden Carter, Ryan Mitchell, Jamie Perebzak and then Sprowls again culminated the offensive explosion.

The Quakers got two back in the bottom half to remain close, 9-6, but Otterbein continued its stride at the plate with RBI on extra-base hits from Luke Barber and Will Johnson. The Cards continued adding insurance runs down the stretch.

Otterbein had 17 hits collectively and walked another nine times in the game. Sprowls went  3 for 6 with four RBI (all in that one inning) while five other teammates also had multi-hit outings. Catcher Adam Stotler walked four times.

Senior Ethan Doty (2-1) picked up another pitching victory with 3.2 strong innings during the middle portion of the contest. Nick Meyer and Nicky Zorne helped carry it the remainder of the way.

Otterbein will get back on the field this coming weekend, playing nearby Capital in a home-and-home doubleheader series across Saturday and Sunday.
