GAMBIER, Ohio – After a comfortable weekend at home, the Cardinals got back onto the bus for another road match Tuesday evening. This time, the path was just under an hour northwest up to Kenyon College for a non-conference showdown.
Otterbein worked through extra points in a tight second frame to ultimately post a sweep, departing by winning scores of 25-18, 26-24, 25-9. The Cards have now won six matches in a row.
Kenyon, led by former Otterbein assistant coach Rosanna Sguerra, falls to 2-5 on the season with the loss.
Otterbein led 9-8 in the first before creating separation, opening a 16-9 lead and never looking back. The Cardinals nearly led the second set slip away, leading 22-16 before Kenyon tied things up (23-23) with a quick 7-1 run…
Otterbein then fought off a pair of set points with a few timely kills, and ultimately prevailed on a block featuring
Madison McCoy and
Amber Greeley. All of that momentum trickled into a lopsided third set, where an 11-0 run by the Cardinals sunk any chance of the hosts making a comeback.
Greeley was very efficient up front, posting a final hitting line of 11-1-18 (.556) to help lead the way.
Morgan Hartman went 17-6-38 (.289) in delivering a match-high in kills from the outside.
Libero
Bridget Oder walked away with a career-high 32 digs, marking her first college match over 30.
Carlie Craycraft averaged a whopping 14 assists per set on the night, leading to 42 overall for anyone doing the math at home.
McCoy was in on four block assists defensively, as Kenyon hit just .103 for the match compared to a .289 clip on the Cardinal side.
Otterbein will travel to nearby Ohio Wesleyan this coming weekend for the Bishop Invitational. Matches against Defiance, Anderson and No. 9-ranked Transylvania are on the slate.
