WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein women's soccer team won its fifth match in a row by defeating Kenyon, 2-0, on a rain-soaked Wednesday night inside Memorial Stadium.
The match, originally scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., didn't kick off until closer to 7:45 after the opening men's contest (of the doubleheader) went through a pair of overtimes.
Â
Neither side was able to hit the scoreboard after a cagey first half. Less than 10 minutes into the second frame, however, the Cardinals took the lead on a
Delaney Earl goal facilitated by
Lauren Alley.
Â
The second-half pressure by the Cardinals only intensified, along with the rain, as Earl tucked away her second goal of the night at the 75:44 mark. This time,
Sydney Walker was credited with the assist.
Â
Otterbein stayed resilient defensively all evening by holding the Ladies to just one shot on goal, and doubling up the opponent with a 16-8 shot advantage overall.
Earl, who recently moved into second on the program's
all-time scoring list, now has more than 100-career points and is one goal shy of tying Hall of Famer Karen Beers with 42.
Â
The Cards also snap a slight two-game losing streak against the Ladies, having previously fallen in 2015 (2-0) and in a wild 5-4 affair recently in 2019. Both of those were played in Gambier.
Otterbein will have the coming weekend off before searching for its sixth-straight win on the road, traveling next Wednesday to take on Hiram. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
