HIRAM, Ohio – The final non-conference outing for the Otterbein women's soccer team turned into a scoring outburst Wednesday night, as the Cardinals erupted for a season-high six goals at Hiram College.
Otterbein, now 6-1 on the fall campaign, has not lost since the season-opening result to nationally-ranked and unbeaten Case Western Reserve. The Cards will now turn focus to defending their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) title.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Otterbein wasted no time taking control, as Delaney Earl finished lower right in the ninth minute and then Anjuli Anderson went high right at the 15:33 mark.
Â
- Hiram did get one back prior to intermission as Ashley Sandru scored roughly 90 seconds before the horn.
Â
- The Cardinals got their foot back on the gas midway through the second period, with Anderson finding the back of the net again (61:15) and Earl joining the scoring barrage once more in the 72nd minute.
Â
- Freshman Lauren Alley scored the team's fifth goal while classmate Bailey Zanella was active and efficient all night, helping Anderson's goal in the 62nd minute and then scoring herself down the stretch.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Otterbein finished with a commanding 22-3 shot advantage, including a 13-2 margin on goal.
Â
- The Cardinals held a lopsided 13-1 edge in corner kicks.
Â
- Earl passes Hall of Famer Karen Beers for second on the program's all-time list in most goals scored, now standing with 43.
Â
- Grace Weidenhamer tallied two assists on the night, setting up both Earl goals.
Â
- Otterbein has now won seven of the past eight matchups with Hiram in the series.
