Group Effort Helps Otterbein Win OAC Road Game

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – A balanced effort allowed the Otterbein women's basketball team to prevail with an Ohio Athletic Conference road win Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals used a workmanlike effort in a 73-63 victory at Muskingum.

Otterbein has won nine-straight games in the series between the two schools, with all coming by double digits. The Cards now stand 13-5 overall and 7-4 within OAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Muskingum led 15-9 toward the end of the first quarter before a lopsided stretch for the Cardinals turned the tide…

  • Otterbein embarked on a 17-0 run, scoring six straight to end the opening frame before another 12 in a row throughout the second. The Cards led 26-15 but settled for a seven-point gap at intermission.

  • The Muskies posted 23 points in the third quarter to make things interesting again, using a 12-0 run (bridging over from the first half) to knot the score at 36-36.  The contest remained a one-possession struggle with the Cardinals taking a slim 55-52 cushion into the fourth.

  • Otterbein clung to the lead until stringing together a 7-0 run midway through the final period, opening a three-possession lead and keeping the host at arm's length down the stretch.
STAT CHECK:
  • Otterbein shot 44 percent for the game compared to just a .3198 clip on the Muskie side.

  • Bryn Mangold posted a game-high 17 points (going 11 of 13 at the free-throw line) while Katie had another 16.

  • Kathleen DeCarlo notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, including a few timely caroms down the stretch.

  • Angelia Jackson matched a career-high with 11 boards herself, the fourth time she has pulled down double-digit boards.

  • The game saw a combined 45 fouls and 54 subsequent free throws.

  • Both teams combined to go 5 for 20 from three-point range.

NEXT WEEK:

The Cardinals will be back at home to begin the stretch, hosting Ohio Northern come Wednesday night at 7 p.m. It will be the first matchup between the schools this season after ONU unfortunately had to cancel the initial meeting due to COVID protocols.
