Second-Half Outburst Propels Cards at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Cardinals remained unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon with a second-half outburst, staying the course to break open a halftime deadlock at Heidelberg and win 7-1.

Otterbein jumps to 2-0-3 mark against the OAC as a result, and also stands a smooth 8-1-3 overall with a dozen games officially under the belt. The Student Princes (0-13-1) are still searching for their first win despite competing admirably before intermission.

Heidelberg got on the board first during a corner-kick sequence, where the initial ball hit a crowded group before spitting out toward the top of the box. Simon Joseph corralled possession and gathered his feet, ripping a shot back in that deflected off another player and into the net.

Otterbein needed just eight minutes before the equalizer, as Silver Abraham created room around a defender before sending in a smooth ball from the right side. Drew Holman was there to quickly head it inside the right post.

The Cardinals went into halftime with a 16-4 shot advantage and finally broke through about 12 minutes after the break. Gabe Sharrock tallied the go-ahead score at the 57:43 mark, finding a ball from Patrick Ahrens on the left side and finishing directly in front of the net. The sideline referee ruled him onside, and Otterbein would be on its way.

Will Isaac helped open the floodgates less than two minutes later, taking a pass at the top of the box and blasting a shot home (in space) for a crisp 3-1 lead. Senior classmate Joshua Conroy added to the scoring barrage in the 62nd minute and Isaac added another 28 seconds later. All in all, the Cards netted four goals in less than five minutes.

Another senior, Coby Stover, joined the party right at the 68:00 mark with a tally of his own and Luke Crockett made it six goals in 15 minutes shortly thereafter. Otterbein cruised to a sixth-consecutive win over Heidelberg in the series, finishing with a commanding 36-6 margin in total shots (19-1 on frame).

The Cardinals get back home into the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium next week for a pair of contests, starting with a highly-anticipated showdown against John Carroll. It will be a rematch of last year's OAC Tournament Championship.
