WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was a sweeping Senior Day for Otterbein inside the Rike Center on Saturday morning, as the No. 18-ranked Cardinals downed visiting Baldwin Wallace in three sets.
The Cardinals dominated the first set and ultimately emerged on final counts of 25-9, 25-18, 25-16 in front of an energetic crowd to conclude regular-season home matches. Otterbein moves to 19-5 overall (6-1 OAC) in keeping pace atop the league standings.
Prior to opening intros, a quartet of seniors in
Tasia Lauth,
Bridget Oder,
Carlie Craycraft and Amber "Big Country" Greeley were recognized for their contributions to the nationally-ranked program. Otterbein has delivered a combined 88-21 record since their arrival to campus.
The Cardinals wasted no time capturing momentum with a dominant opening frame, using a 10-1 run midway through to blow open the scoreboard.
BW regrouped and played tight across most of the middle frame, only trailing 17-16 before Otterbein took control as Craycraft chased a notable milestone. Late in the set, she watched teammate
Kennedy Hoffman rattle of three-straight kills to surpass 4,000 assists for her decorated career.
Craycraft becomes just the 11th player in Ohio Athletic Conference history to surpass the 4K number, and now rests just 164 shy of reaching Andrea Miller atop the program record books.
The Cards rallied around their All-American to close that frame on an 8-2 run, and held off a scrappy BW team in the third set. BW was only down 12-10 before succumbing to the Otterbein power, as four kills from the home side over the next seven points created more separation.
Otterbein hit .299 for the match while the Yellow Jackets finished in the negative at a .-029 output. Hoffman (15-1-26) and Greeley (12-1-16) were both incredibly efficient to both hit over .500 for the contest.
Morgan Hartman and
Amanda Troyer each tallied 13 digs for the defense while Oder chipped in another seven, as BW only managed 22 kills as a team for the day. Otterbein also had 14 blocks defensively... including five off the wall of
Madison McCoy.
Otterbein has now won seven of the past eight matchups in the series between the two schools.
Next week will help sort out the OAC standings and crown a regular-season champion, as the Cards travel to Marietta and Mount Union for critical showdowns.
