ADA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team fought and scraped its way into a draw Wednesday night at Ohio Northern, getting back on the bus holding a scoreless deadlock despite ONU posting a lopsided shot margin.
The contest, a rematch of the last four OAC Tournament Championship showdowns, finished with the Polar Bears holding a 22-1 advantage in total shots and 7-1 on frame. But goalkeeper
Ella Schwertfager came up with seven saves between the posts to help keep the team even.
Otterbein now stands 4-4-2 on the year while Ohio Northern, which made the NCAA second round last fall, moves to a 6-1-3 overall mark.
The lone shot attempt for the Cardinals was actually the first of the entire game for either said, coming in the 10th minute when a rip from Bailey Zanelle was saved in the middle of the frame by Becky Moss.
Neither side was able to manufacture much heading into the break, despite three Ohio Northern shot attempts beyond the 36th minute of action.
The Polar Bears turned up the tempo after intermission as Schwertfager was credited with all seven stops in the period. Two of those occurred in the closing seven minutes of game time.
This result marks the fourth draw between the schools over the past 10 meetings. ONU held a mdoest 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Otterbein stays on the road to conclude the week, heading over to Muskingum for kickoff Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
