Men's Basketball Wins by Double Digits at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. – Make it a 3-0 start for the Otterbein men's basketball team Friday night during its first road game of the season, as the Cardinals led for almost the entire way en route to securing a 66-54 victory at Earlham College.

The Cardinals shot 56 percent in the first half to beat a nice lead, and held off a pesky host school down the stretch for another non-conference win. Senior Dallas Patrick surpassed 1,000 career points in the game!

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Otterbein used a 13-0 run early in the first half to take control for good, holding a double-digit lead by the midway point of the frame.

  • The Quakers closed to within seven points (temporarily) before Otterbein kicked back into gear, striking a 10-0 run spanning the next few minutes capped by a Patrick jumper in the paint. The Cards ultimately carried a 35-24 lead into the break.

  • Otterbein maintained a double-digit lead the entire second half, expanding the margin to 19 at one point before working to limit any comeback. Cam Evans made four free throws over the final 90 seconds.
NOTABLE STATS:
  • Otterbein shot 43 percent for the game compared to just a .357 clip on the Earlham side.

  • Evans, coming off a buzzer-beater shot against Oberlin, led all players with 23 points benefited by an 11-of-14 effort at the charity stripe.

  • Patrick, a 3x All-OAC selection, reached the 1,000 milestone after a pair of tough shooting games to begin the year. But the veteran dropped 19 this time around to go along with a game-high eight rebounds.

  • Jaden Terry led Earlham with 20 points, shooting 6 of 10 from the field but also committing eight turnovers.

  • The Quakers shot just 4 of 18 from behind the arc, as opponents have made just 13 of 66 (.197) combined against Otterbein here in the early going.

UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will travel to nearby Denison for a showdown next Tuesday night before crushing some turkey on Thanksgiving.
