GAMBIER, Ohio – The final outing of a three-game road trip to launch the season had Otterbein on the low side of a 13-5 decision Wednesday afternoon, as host Kenyon found a groove late in the first quarter and remained in front moving forward.
The Cardinals (0-3) only trailed by one goal midway through the frame, netting scores from
Nick Clay and
Ty Forney in the early going.
Nawny Bailey and
Cole Werbrich assisted each of those, respectively.
The undefeated Lords (3-0) caught momentum from there with a four-goal run. Kenyon scored twice to end the opening frame, the latter with 15 seconds to go, and then kept Otterbein off the board for most of the second while adding two others.
Aidan Moore, fresh off his four-goal effort at Wooster, stopped the bleeding with 1:46 before intermission to keep the Cardinals within 7-3.
But Kenyon opened the third quarter strong, placing the Cards in a 9-3 hole and maintaining a comfortable distance throughout. Bailey and Moore added goals before the final horn to lead the visitors offensively.
Cameron Longway and Declan Curry both tallied hat tricks for Kenyon, which held a 48-29 shot margin and corralled 15 of the 22 faceoffs.
Otterbein freshman
Tyler Owens-Terwilliger, making his first-career start, had five saves in the cage. He and defenseman
Lincoln Troxell tied for a team-best four ground balls.
Max Graham went 4 for 8 at the X.
Otterbein will now regroup heading into spring break, traveling down to Clearwater, Fla. and partaking in matchups against Clark (3/8) and Wittenberg (3/11).
