Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Marietta in 14-11 Road Win

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Otterbein women's lacrosse team, coming off a dominant win this past Saturday afternoon, collected another Ohio Athletic Conference victory in the form of a 14-11 decision at Marietta College throughout Wednesday evening. The Pioneers jumped out to an early advantage, but a nice second quarter helped Otterbein build a lead and ultimately hold off the host school.

The win moves the Cardinals back over the .400 mark on the season (7-6 overall) and also a solid 5-2 mark in OAC play. They currently sit fourth in the conference standings with the regular-season finale on Saturday. Plenty is left to be determined for postseason tournament seeding.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Marietta tallied a quick 2-0 lead, but the Cards answered with a two-score run.

  • The host Pioneers then jumped back out to a 4-2 lead.

  • Otterbein regained a two-score advantage in the second frame with a 4-0 run; Logan Fox netted two of the four goals.

  • The Cards carried an 11-9 lead into the final frame of action, but Marietta didn't go quietly.

  • After a Cardinal score opened the frame, the Pioneers tallied two man-up goals to pull within a score, 12-11.

  • Otterbein held the hosts scoreless over the final seven minutes of play while adding two insurance goals (man-down) to escape with their fourth-straight win over Marietta.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Logan Fox paced the Cardinal offense with a six-point performance, netting four goals and two assists.

  • Carli Rigel also scored four goals while Emily Willms and Lexie Van Cleef netted two.

  • Six different Cards found the back of the net... and half of the 14 goals were assisted.

  • Maggie Nance made 12 saves in full time between the pipes, as her defensive unit limited the Pioneers to just a 3-of-10 success rate on free-position shots.

UP NEXT:

On Saturday, the Cards return home for the season finale and Senior Day against Mount Union. Game time has been pushed back from the originally schedule time and is now slotted for 3:30 p.m.
