Huge Fifth Inning Pushes Cards Past Ohio Wesleyan, 19-8

DELAWARE, Ohio – It was an incredibly quick turnaround, but Otterbein locked back in and secured a regional non-conference victory over at nearby Ohio Wesleyan Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals, leaving campus roughly 13 hours after returning from a road doubleheader at Muskingum, busted out the bats to post a decisive 19-8 victory against the Battling Bishops. Here's how it went down…
  • Otterbein trailed 7-1 after four innings.

  • The Cardinals erupted for 10 runs in the fifth, sending 15 batters to the plate during the frenzy. Brayden Carter and Zak Repar (who has been dying for a shout out) both contributed 2-RBI hits in the sequence, where the last five runs were unearned after a pair of OWU errors.

  • Otterbein used that momentum to leave little doubt in the final score, plating multiple runs in the next three innings to secure a run-rule decision after eight.

  • Noah Sprowls launched doubles in the sixth and eighth innings, going 3 for 4 on the day.

NOTABLE STATS:
  • Five players had multi-hit and multi-RBI games. Luke Barber drove in four while Ryan Mitchell crossed the plate four times himself.

  • Five different arms took the mound, with freshman Matthew Weaver getting the win in his varsity debut. The Grove City "Brayden duo" of McCloskey and Quincel pitched scoreless frames to culminate.

  • Otterbein is now averaging 9.1 runs per game this season.

UP NEXT:

The Cardinals will have the middle of this coming week off to concentrate on final exams, and will retake the diamond Saturday afternoon for a league doubleheader with John Carroll. It will also be Senior Day at Fishbaugh Field.
