WBB: Stingy Defense, Big Third Quarter Leads to Another OAC Win

PHOTO GALLERY

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Another stingy defensive effort (and lopsided third quarter) by the Cardinals translated into a third-straight win Saturday afternoon, as Otterbein capped a doubleheader on the hardwood with a 53-45 triumph against Mount Union.

The Cards, jumping to 9-6 overall and 5-3 against the OAC, beat the Raiders for a third-consecutive time after holding another Northeast Ohio team in the 40's. Otterbein limited John Carroll to just 48 points earlier this week and Heidelberg to 45 last weekend.
  • Both teams were tied 10-10 after the opening frame, and Otterbein carried a tight 27-24 lead into halftime after nice bench production late in the period.

  • The Cardinals came flying out of the locker room to post a 19-5 advantage in the third. Mount was held to just one point over the final 5:33 and shot just 2 of 14 in the period, which included a 9-0 run by Otterbein.

  • The Raiders sliced the lead to single digits early in the fourth, but Otterbein quickly countered and kept the visitors at arm's length to the final horn.

  • Kathleen DeCarlo and Jenna Hoschouer both had 12 points and seven rebounds to pace Otterbein, which held a dominant 17-2 scoring edge on the fast break.

  • The Cards also (nearly) doubled up Mount in paint scoring at 30-16.

  • Both sides combined to shoot 8 of 34 behind the arc.

  • The Purple Raiders, shooting 25% for the entire day, received a game-high 13 points from leading scorer Emma Cannon. Gretchen Koken just missed a double-double with 10 and 9.
