Cards Smother Student Princes in 7-0 Decision

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was a runaway victory inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday for the Otterbein men's soccer team, remaining unbeaten in OAC play with a 7-0 decision against Heidelberg.

The Cardinals scored 16 seconds into the day and stayed on the gas pedal throughout, working in a variety of subs and lineups on a day that saw beaming sunshine, overcast cloud and then rain in the second half.

Otterbein improves to 4-0-1 in league play and a smooth 8-2-3 overall this season, having now lost just once since the first week of September.

Nick Isaac made sure everyone was paying attention in the opening minute, roping a shot (on frame) that deflected off his older brother Will Isaac and continuing into the net.

Will then converted a penalty-kick goal less than three minutes later after a foul in the box, and Mark Wischmeyer curved in a beautiful free kick with his left foot at the 14:11 mark.

Otterbein had a bunch of chances to extend the lead during the middle portion of the first half, instead settling for just a 4-0 lead at the break. Patrick Ahrens corralled a loose ball near the top of the box in the 31st minute and finished cleanly lower-left.

The Isaac brothers teamed on the fifth goal shortly into the second half, and then Andrew Rudesill made it a six-pack after taking a pass from Jayden Lunfsord on the left side of the box.

Kelvin Mkwawa capped the scoring on arguably the prettiest goal of the day, occurring late in the 89th minute. He took an incoming corner kick from Coby Stover on the far side of the box, redirecting a header back across the pack and into the left side of the net.

All in all, Otterbein posted a 26-3 edge on total shots and 10-3 gap in corner kicks. Casey Thompson enjoyed a quiet first half in goal for the Cards before giving way to Barrett Moore.

Otterbein now turns its attention to a huge road match next week, traveling up to University Heights for a showdown with defending champ (and league-leading) John Carroll. First kick at Don Shula Stadium will be at 7 p.m.
