BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team fought across 90 minutes to secure a well-deserved result on the road Saturday afternoon, escaping George Finnie Stadium up at Baldwin Wallace with a 1-0 decision.
The victory helps keep Otterbein unbeaten in conference play with just a week (two matches) left on the regular-season schedule. The Cards now stand 6-0-1 in the league and control their destiny in search for a title.
Baldwin Wallace slips back to 3-3-1 in league play with the result despite taking Otterbein to the wire, as both teams settled with nine shots on the day.
The difference-making tally came early on in the 16th minute courtesy of freshman
Andrew Rudesill netting his third-career goal.
Nick Isaac craftily beat a defender on the right side and slipped a pass into the box, where Rudesill's quick touch beat a charging keeper.
Otterbein worked to maintain a clean sheet over the remaining 75 minutes, as
Casey Thompson snagged a pair of saves in each half. It helped mark the third-straight shutout this month.
The Cardinals were whistled for 16 of 24 fouls called on the day as a whole, but stay two points ahead of John Carroll atop the league standings.
Otterbein gets back home to finish out the regular season next week, hosting matches against Marietta (Wednesday) and then Mount Union (Saturday).
