MSOC: Cardinals Score Early and Often in 6-0 Road Victory

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team headed into Fall Break with a dominant road Saturday afternoon, erupting with five goals in the opening half to ultimately post a 6-0 triumph at Muskingum.

The Cardinals run their current unbeaten streak to five matches in the process, and have now topped the Muskies for the 11th time in a row. Otterbein holds an aggregate 19-3 scoring edge in this series over the past three years.

Senior Carter Ely netted the first two for Otterbein, scoring at the 9:57 mark and then again in the 15th minute. Mitchell Patterson, who assisted Ely's second tally, then scored his own in the 25th minute to provide the Cards a field-goal advantage.

A brotherly connected teamed for another scoring play just a few minutes later, as Nick Isaac found Will Isaac exactly three minutes from the prior goal. Then, Nick scored off an assist from Giuseppe Maida at the 30:16 mark to give Otterbein a five-piece combo in a half hour.

Will Isaac made it a six pack for the Cards shortly into the second half, and the team cruised down the stretch to stand 2-0-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. Otterbein is also 6-2-3 overall this campaign.

Isaac, who assisted Patterson's goal midway through the first half, now stands with 26 for his career and ties Rod Borah (1994-99) atop the program record list. He will need one more helper to become the all-time leader.

Otterbein posted a 23-6 advantage in total shots, including a nice 12-2 edge on goal. The Muskies were called for 14 of the 19 fouls in the contest.

Freshman Oskar Kaurin saw his first collegiate action in goal for the Cards, relieving Casey Thompson early in the second half and going the remaining 38 scoreless minutes.

The Cards will get back inside Memorial Stadium next week, hosting Wilmington come Wednesday at 7 p.m.
