Cardinals Fall to Millikin and Calvin at DePauw Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – It was a tough stay at the DePauw Invitational for the Otterbein women's basketball team over the weekend, suffering losses to nationally-ranked Millikin and then Calvin to wrap up the two-day event

The Cards succumbed on opening night to the No. 24-ranked Big Blue, and then also came up short against the Knights in Saturday's consolation game.

MILLIKIN RECAP (L 86-43):

The Big Blue, coming off a 24-5 campaign before losing in the NCAA's to eventual national champion Transylvania, stayed perfect on the year after dropping 29 in the first quarter. Millikin carried a 47-20 lead into halftime and then limited Otterbein to just five points in the third.

Otterbein kept playing and posted an 18-12 scoring margin in the final quarter. Maizie King had six points and five rebounds for the Cardinals.

CALVIN RECAP (L 68-53):

The score was just 13-10 after one frame, but the Knights ripped off 25 points in the second to ultimately take a 38-24 lead at intermission.

Otterbein came out firing in a third quarter that saw the team notch 19 points, going 6 of 13 from the field and making all but one free throw. That effort shrunk the gap to just single digits with one period left.

Calvin regrouped to make sure the separation was too much, pushing the difference back to 13 early in the final quarter.

Katie McCrary scored 13 to lead Otterbein, while sophomore Ella Nagel had 10 points and a career-high six steals. Senior guard Claire Radabaugh added nine to the offensive column.

UP NEXT:

Otterbein will have more than 10 days to regroup, eventually resuming action after Thanksgiving down at Wilmington on November 29. It will be the start of Ohio Athletic Conference play.
