GAMBIER, Ohio – After a tough setback prior to Thanksgiving, the Otterbein men's basketball team soared back into the win column Sunday afternoon with a smooth 84-67 victory at Kenyon.
The Cardinals, showing little signs of tryptophan sluggish per said holiday, opened a double-digit lead by halftime against the Owls before creating more separation in the second frame. Otterbein now stands 4-1 on the season after playing a fourth NCAC team in a row.
Both sides jockeyed for momentum in a 1-2 possession game early, before the Cards struck a 10-0 run across the midway point to earn some breathing room. Otterbein stretched the lead to as many as 12 prior to intermission before settling with a 36-26 cushion at the break.
The Cardinals stayed on the gas pedal to open the second half, posting a 15-6 margin coming out of the locker room to seize a 51-32 advantage. Otterbein ran that lead to 22 moments later and coasted down the stretch.
Cam Evans led all players with 19 points (on 6-of-11 shooting) while matching a career-best with nine rebounds.
Jack Clements went for an all-around effort of 13-5-5 and
Brock Waits chipped in a crisp 12 off the bench.
Otterbein shot 60 percent in the second half and finished with a 35-19 edge in bench scoring. The game featured 54 free throws and 43 fouls.
The Cardinals gave the ball away just six times all day, easily marking a season-low for turnovers.
