BEXLEY, Ohio – Otterbein held host/rival Capital to just 28 percent shooting for the entire game, but a discrepancy at the free-throw line proved to be a massive difference Saturday evening in the Roush Auto Rivalry Showdown between two school separated by just 13 miles.
Capital led the entire second half and survived down the stretch in what became a one-possession finish, emerging 53-50 thanks to making more free throws (17) than Otterbein attempts (13).
-----
Both teams combined to shoot 9 of 38 (.236) from three-point range in the low-scoring affair.
A 10-2 run by the home side midway through the first quarter pushed Capital in front for good, despite ties at 17, 19 and 22 in the second frame. The Comets eventually took a slim 28-24 lead into the break.
A tough-shooting quarter ensued for both teams in the third, as the sides went 6 of 25 overall. Capital held a 39-32 cushion into the final period.
Otterbein scored the most points (18) by any team all night in the fourth, slicing the gap to just a bucket (43-41) after a trifecta from
Claire Radabaugh with more than five minutes to play. The Cards were still only down four, 48-44, following another triple hit from Radabaugh with 1:49 left…
However, Capital hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch and withstood a three-pointer from
Olivia Majors with seven seconds left that made it a 51-10 game.
------
Majors and Radabaugh combined for nearly half (24) of Otterbein's scoring, accounting for all five makes behind the arc.
Otterbein shot 38 percent for the night compared to that .286 effort on the home side, but was called for nearly twice as many fouls as 22-12. The Cards also surrendered 16 offensive rebounds and committed six more turnovers.
Four Capital players scored in double figures for a balanced effort, all between 10-12 points.
Ella Nagel brought down a game-high 10 rebounds for Otterbein.

The Cardinals will have the middle of next week off for final exams before heading over to Heidelberg for an afternoon contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
