WESTERVILLLE, Ohio – Behind a season-high 25 points from senior
Dallas Patrick, the Otterbein men's basketball team exacted sweet revenge Wednesday night against Ohio Northern after a tough overtime loss against the Polar Bears just a few weeks back…
The Cardinals, shooting a blistering 60% for the night as a whole, scored 40 points in the second half to pull away and best ONU by a 75-58 final margin. Otterbein gets to a 13-7 overall record this season in the process.
HOW IT PLAYED OUT:
- Both sides traded buckets in a first half that featured ties at 8, 11, 13, 16 and 20 before a nice run pushed Otterbein ahead by double digits… 33-23.
Â
- ONU stopped the home side momentum briefly and managed to enter the locker room for halftime down 35-27.
Â
- The Polar Bears opened the second half strong to force deadlocks at 37 and 39… but Otterbein took control for good in the moments thereafter…
Â
- Otterbein, leading just 44-42, caught fire behind Patrick and proceeded to rip off a 15-2 run within five minutes of that one-possession battle.
Â
- The Cardinals never led that margin dip back into single digits the remainder of the night, ballooning the gap to as many as 19 down the stretch.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Patrick shot a very efficient 10 of 13 from the field, displaying his best DeMar DeRozan impression by dominating the mid-range game with multiple turnaround/fallaway jumpers. He did all of that damage in just 26 minutes.
Â
- Julian Heckman added 14 points for his seventh-straight game in double figures.
Â
- Otterbein shot 16 of 24 after intermission and needed to make just five free throws collectively to hit the 75 team points.
Â
- A rather clean game featured just 13 combined turnovers between the sides.
Â
- Landen Long (15) led three Ohio Northern players in double figures.
Â
UP NEXT:
- Otterbein stays at home to close the weekend, hosting a rematch with Baldwin Wallace come Saturday afternoon in the Rike Center as part of Senior Day.
