Cardinals Set Program Record in 64-26 Win at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – A record-setting effort on the defensive end propelled Otterbein to a lopsided road victory at Heidelberg, as the Cardinals stifled the host Student Princes in a 64-26 victory Saturday afternoon at Seiberling Gymnasium.

The Cardinals set a new program record for fewest points allowed in a single game, edging out the performance of an 81-27 triumph against Marietta way back in January of 2007. Otterbein has now held eight opponents to 55 points or less this season.

The victory also marks the 10th in a row for Otterbein in the series, having limited Heidelberg to a combined 71 points in the two contest this winter after a 57-45 decision last month.

NOTABLE STATS:
  • The Student Princes did not score more than seven points in any quarter, shooting 7 of 46 for the game and 0 of 18 from three-point range.

  • Kathleen DeCarlo just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, marking the only player to reach double figures in scoring on the day.

  • Four Cardinals tallied multiple steals on the defensive side.

  • Otterbein hauled in 18 offensive rebounds from start to finish.

  • The Cards led 33-12 at halftime.

MOVING FORWARD:

Otterbein now stands 14-9 on the season after a third-straight win, getting to 10-6 within the league and clinching a home game in the upcoming six-team bracket of the OAC Tournament.

The Cardinals will have road games at Wilmington and Mount Union next week, as plenty of seeding is still to be determined.
