Men's Lax Falls Victim to Kenyon in Lightning-Delayed Affair

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was a tough evening at Memorial Stadium for the Otterbein men's lacrosse team, which had to square off with both undefeated Kenyon and Mother Nature across an extended non-conference affair.

Kenyon led 3-1 after the first quarter and then lightning in the area forced the game into a delay that lasted almost a hour. After the action resumed, the Owls would go on to beat their third-straight OAC team to begin the season (Baldwin Wallace, 11-10 and Capital, 16-8).

Carson Rainone converted a man-up goal to cap the first-half scoring, which left the Cardinals in a manageable 4-2 hole. But Kenyon dominated the faceoff X and methodically pulled away through the second half, scoring six times in the third period and then keeping Otterbein off the board in the fourth.
  • The Owls finished with a 31-8 advantage in shots on goal and forced Cardinal goalie Luke Farthing into make 17 saves. He now has 74 stops through three contests this year.

  • Kenyon controlled possession behind star faceoff specialist Thomas Nelson at the X, one of the top players in the country at his position. He went 20 of 21 and collected 17 ground balls in the process.

  • Otterbein's Davis Tanaka managed to win just the second opportunity all season against Nelson… who now stands 63 of 65 this season.

  • Both sides finished 1 of 4 on extra-man opportunities.

  • David Chintala (Kenyon) led all scorers with give goals while Nathan Lewis tallied a pair for Otterbein.

The Cardinals will now head south and look to regroup over spring break, with road games at Methodist (3/7) and Pfeiffer (3/9) on the slate.
