WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinals used consistent scoring and a suffocating defensive effort to create a quick gap against Heidelberg in conference play Saturday afternoon, sprinting past the Student Princes by a count of 22-4 at a sunny Memorial Stadium.

HOW IT WENT DOWN:
  • Nathan Lewis scored 42 seconds in and the rout was on. The Cards added four more goals to end the first half, including a behind-the-back rope from Ty Forney, to grab a 5-0 lead.

  • Heidelberg got on the board in the second frame before Otterbein blew the doors open, embarking on a 12-goal run run that saw a  14-1 lead at intermission and carried into the fourth quarter.

  • Multiple lineups and rotations were worked in across the fourth, with five different Cardinals scoring again including a man-up conversion by Alex Menendez.
THE STATS:
  • Menendez and Nick Clay each tallied a game-high five points, while Lewis and Aidan Moore also secured hat tricks. Cole Werbrich had three helpers.

  • Forney, Sam Swisher and Marcus Wright all enjoyed multi-goal outings for an offensive that had 11 players find the back of the net at least once.

  • Lincoln Troxell caused five turnovers in the first half before getting the rest of the day off. He is now just three shy of passing Adam Grumman's all-time program record of 96.

  • Five faceoff specialists allowed Otterbein to finish 18 of 29 at the X. Eddie McDonald and went 5 for 6 while Sam Becker, Davis Tanka, Justin Dyer and Chase Lagore took their respective turns.
  • Miles Wilke (starter) and Ethan Foster split time in goal, combining for five saves in the process.

  • Otterbein finished with a 38-9 edge in shots on goal.
THE AFTERMATH:
  • Otterbein gets back to even (3-3) in OAC play while the Student Princes (0-6) are still searching for their first W. The Cards will play at Marietta this coming Wednesday night.
