HANOVER, Ind. – A third meeting in the last decade between Otterbein and Hanover produced a third different result Wednesday afternoon, as both sides played to a scoreless draw in non-conference action.
All three meeting in the series have now been played at the Hanover Soccer Complex. The Panthers took the first showdown back in 2013, a 2-1 decision, before the Cardinals flipped the script to win by the same score in late September of 2019.
This time around, nothing would budge for either team on the scoreboard as a 0-0 draw would be the outcome. Otterbein remains a solid 3-1-2 on the year while Hanover, which lost in the HCAC title match last fall, now sits with a 3-1-3 overall mark.
A back-and-forth contest saw 27 combined shots between the side, including six each before intermission. None of the 15 corners on the day, or other free kicks/set pieces, could generate a scoring sequence.
Both goalkeepers made five saves throughout, including a few impressive stops from
Ella Schwertfager that helped keep Hanover off the board. Hanover implemented more than 20 players across the day and held a 9-6 shot margin in the second half, but to no avail.
Otterbein returns home to welcome Mount St. Joseph come Sunday afternoon on campus, as the Lions visit Memorial Stadium for an opening kick at 3 p.m.
