PADDLE TO SUCCESS: Cards Beat Comets in League Opener

WESTERVILLE, Ohio. - The Cardinals clashed with the Comets, with added intensity to the Roush Auto Rivalry Weekend on a sunny and summery Saturday afternoon. In the second half, Otterbein surged ahead and secured a 2-1 victory against Capital, ensuring that they retained possession of the rivalry oar.
 
Otterbein has won their last three games, bringing their season record to 5-2-2 as they completed their first conference match of the year. After the match, Capital now holds a record of 6-3.
 
First Half:
  • Otterbein comes out early with a goal at the sixth minute of the match to get the game rolling.
     
  • In the box, Carter Ely delivered a pass to Will Isaac. A Capital player found themselves on the receiving end of a rocket from Isaac that deflected off them, resulting in an Otterbein goal.
     
  • The two teams continued to fight with five shots happening until Capital was able to connect with one for the equalizer. Zade Awad was able to weave between two Otterbein defenders to take a shot on the 10-yard line to tie the match up.
     
  • The continuous chatter continued across the match, leading to the Comets being handed two yellow cards before the clock expired.
Second Half:
  • The second half of the game saw more action, with Otterbein taking the lead once again at 53-minute mark.
     
  • From a corner kick, Isaac executed a short pass to his brother Nick Isaac. As Isaac dribbled closer to the goal, he managed to deliver a high pass that connected perfectly with Drew Holman's head, extending their lead to 2-1.
     
  • The game proceeded with a total of six shot attempts from both teams, and the Comets received another yellow card to conclude the match and keep the rivalry oar.
Looking Ahead:

Next week, the Cardinals will hit the road as they journey to Ada to face Ohio Northern. The kickoff inside Dial-Roberson Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
