Women's Soccer fries Muskies on Senior Day

WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein women's soccer team dominated Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Muskingum with a 5-0 victory in Saturday's Senior Day match. The Cardinals recognized seniors Lauren Alley, Kesley Louderback, Emma Sturts, Lindsey Whitmore, Aubrey Zanella and Bailey Zanella in a ceremony prior to the game as part of the Senior Day festivities.

  • Records: Otterbein (7-3-4 overall, 2-1-2 OAC), Muskingum (3-9-1 overall, 0-4-1 OAC)
  • Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio
The Game
  • Otterbein held Muskingum to just one shot throughout the entire 90 minutes. You read that correctly! 
  • The Cardinals fired 12 shots before finally finding the back of the net. Redshirt senior Jada Leyland initiated the sequence with a throw-in to sophomore Summer Patsko, who took a quick touch and placed a shot into the top left corner, securing the opening goal of the match in the 38th minute.
  • A short two minutes later, freshman Keaton Aspacher ran the ball from the 30-yard line to the 5-yard line to find the top right corner for the second goal of the game.
  • The second half featured a burst of action, with Patsko netting her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute.
  • Junior Alyssa Lemos attempted a behind-the-back shot that was blocked, but she quickly recovered the rebound, sliding in the fourth goal of the game in the 79th minute.
  • Just 1:44 later, from the far corner, Lemos found freshman Grace Dziatkowicz, who scored her first career goal, clinching the final score of the game.
  • Returning from injury and making her first start of the season, junior Caitlin Drew played all 90 minutes in goal for Otterbein and earned the shutout.
  • The Cardinals recorded 39 total shots, with 16 on target. Otterbein earned 12 corner kicks while holding Muskingum to just one.

  • Entering Saturday, the Cardinals' 2024 senior class had accounted for 77 points on 28 goals and 21 assists: Alley (29 points, 9 goals, 11 assists), Louderback (7 points, 3 goals, 1 assist), Whitmore (6 points, 2 goals, 2 assists), Aubrey Zanella (6 points, 2 goals, 2 assists) and Bailey Zanella (29 points, 12 goals, 5 assists).
  • Otterbein is now 18-0 against Muskingum since 2007, winning those games by a combined score of 77-4.
  • Saturday marked Patsko's second two-goal game of the season, matching her outing at Mount St. Joseph on Sept. 4.
  • Aspacher's goal was her third of the season.
  • Lemos' goal was her third of the season. She now has 11 career points on five goals and one assist.
  • Drew secured her third career shutout.
  • Head coach Brandon Koons, now in his 26th year at Otterbein, holds an all-time record of 345-105-46 with the Cardinals.
