Men's Soccer opens OAC slate with 2-1 loss to Mount Union

WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein men's soccer team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 loss to Mount Union on Saturday night.

The Basics
  • Records: Otterbein (4-4-2 overall, 0-1-0 OAC), Mount Union (7-3-1 overall, 1-0-0 OAC)
  • Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio
The Game
  • Mount Union opened the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute from Dom Kustura.
  • Otterbein answered to tie the score with a goal in the 25th minute, as senior Nick Isaac took a pass from sophomore Josh Lord and headed the ball into the back of the net.
  • The Purple Raiders retook the lead in the 35th minute, going up 2-1 on a goal from Carter Hancock. Mount Union took that 2-1 lead into halftime.
  • Both teams attempted six shots in the opening half, three of which were on goal for each side. Otterbein held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • Junior Kasdin Hale had a close-range shot opportunity in the 68th minute, but the ball sailed left of the goal.
  • With just under 12 minutes remaining, Isaac took a shot off of a free kick into the box that was saved by the Raider goalkeeper.
  • Mount Union was charged with a yellow card with 1:04 left, giving the Cardinals a free kick at the 10-yard line, but graduate student Mark Wischmeyer's shot missed high. The Raider defense denied the ensuing Otterbein corner kick from posing a threat.
  • Freshman Jason Villalobos played all 90 minutes in goal for Otterbein and recorded two saves.
  • Otterbein out-shot Mount Union by a 16-10 margin, including 6-4 in shots on goal. Each team attempted six corner kicks.

  • Isaac's goal was his fifth of the season. He has 31 career points on 11 goals and nine assists.
  • Lord's assist marked the first point of his career.
