Four Cardinals post 3-0 records as Men's Wrestling opens 2024-25 season at Lycoming Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Four Cardinals posted 3-0 records as the Otterbein men's wrestling team opened its 2024-25 season on Sunday at the Lycoming (Pa.) Invitational.

The Basics
  • The meet was not team scored. It was a round robin event with three guaranteed matches for each wrestler and only freshman/sophomores in one set of brackets and juniors/seniors in the other.
  • Venue: Keiper Recreation Center - Williamsport, Pa.
  • Wrestlers from 10 schools competed in the meet.

Otterbein Individual Highlights
  • Sophomore Josh Taylor went 3-0 in the freshman/sophomore 174-pound bracket with three falls. He recorded falls in 3:30 over Penn State Behrend's Matthew Melchior, in 2:32 over Cortland State's Gavin Seiler and in 1:02 over Marymount's Joseph Alexander.
  • Freshman Luke Dolan went 3-0 in the freshman/sophomore 157-pound bracket with two falls and one major decision. He won by fall in 1:51 over Utica's Hunter Morton and in 1:18 over Marymount's Valentino Antoine. He won by 11-1 major decision over Lycoming's Jayden Drummond.
  • Junior Andrew Sas went 3-0 in the junior/senior 149-pound bracket with one technical fall, one decision and one medical forfeit. He won by 16-1 technical fall over St. John Fisher's Michael Shelhart, 9-3 decision over Penn State Behrend's Colton Minerva and by medical forfeit over Scranton's Konstantinos Mavrikidis.
  • Senior Billy Reed-Bodey went 3-0 in the junior/senior 285-pound bracket with one technical fall and two decisions. He won by 15-0 technical fall over Oneonta State's Andrew Morris, 2-0 decision over Oneonta State's Kenny Jackson and 3-0 decision over Marymount's Brey Loving.
  • Six Cardinals posted 2-1 records on the day, including seniors Tamas Eder and Zac Stray, junior Carter Mottley, sophomore Gabe Thacker and freshmen Karson Nail and Muhammad Jallaq.
  • Eder won by decisions of 8-4 and 10-5 and lost via fall in 4:08 in his other match at 141 pounds.
  • Stray won by falls in 1:51 and 5:49 and lost via fall in 2:04 in his other match at 285 pounds.
  • Mottley won by fall in 4:21 and by 8-0 major decision and lost via an 18-14 decision in his other match at 149 pounds.
  • Thacker won by fall in 1:48 and by 18-0 technical fall and lost via fall in 2:25 in his other match at 125 pounds.
  • Nail won by decisions of 3-2 and 9-6 and lost via fall in 6:37 in his other match at 197 pounds.
  • Jallaq won by fall in 1:15 and by 19-2 technical fall and lost via fall in 2:39 in his other match at 197 pounds.
