WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The wild and wacky scene of OAC men's basketball continued Saturday afternoon in the Rike Center and other parts of the state, where Otterbein comfortably downed Baldwin Wallace 78-59 before a few "upsets" also went final to impact the league standings.
Otterbein led BW wire-to-wire for a season sweep, while Muskingum took down Heidelberg (77-71), Capital knocked off Mount Union (78-72) and Ohio Northern snapped a 13-game losing skid against Marietta with an overtime victory.
As a result, all of that now creates a
four-way tie for third place in the conference with just two weeks (four games) left in the regular season. The top-six teams will ultimately play in the OAC Tournament.
RIKE CENTER RESULT:
- Otterbein held Baldwin Wallace to just two points over the first eight minutes of the day, building a double-digit lead in the process.
- The Cards then led 24-6 until watching BW cut that lead almost in half. Otterbein responded with an 11-0 run behind three trifectas from different players, and carried nice momentum into the break.
- BW kept hanging around and only trailed by 13 nearing the midway point of the second half, before the Cards ripped off another 11-0 run to effectively put the game away.
- Otterbein ran the lead to as many as 27 at multiple points down the stretch.
STAT CHECK:
- Otterbein dominated the glass to finish with a 47-29 rebounding margin, as six different players tallied at least five caroms.
- An incredibly balanced effort saw Julian Heckman, Cam Evans and Chase Garito all finish with 13 points. Evans just missed a double-double with nine boards.
- Jack Clement controlled the show with a 13-5-4 line, shooting 6 of 14 from the field in the process.
- The Cards shot 52% for the game and limited BW to 35% on the other end.
- Myles Reynolds scored 14 as the only player in double figures for Baldwin Wallace, playing without its two leading scorers in Ray Ellington and AJ Pestello due to injury.
- Otterbein held a 40-22 scoring edge in the paint and only needed to make four free throws for its offensive damage.
UP NEXT:
- Another important game awaits on Wednesday night as the Cardinals travel down to Marietta for tip at 7 p.m.
