WLAX: Cards Ring First Victory Bell of Season After Defeating Alma

WESTERVILLE, Ohio –  The Otterbein women's lacrosse team kicked off the home segment of their schedule with a cold, windy victory over Alma inside Memorial Stadium on Sunday evening.

First-year Coach Brooke Delara claimed her first home victory inside Memorial Stadium as the Cardinals improve their record to 4-1 after securing a 14-7 victory against The Scots. This marks the program's strongest start since it started in 2012.

HOW IT WENT DOWN:

  • The Cards established an early lead, finishing the first quarter with a 4-0 advantage. Senior Carli Rigel contributing three of those goals. Moreover, they successfully secured four out of five draw controls.

  • During the second quarter, Alma encountered twice as many turnovers as Otterbein. However, they managed to respond by narrowing the deficit to a one-goal game and scoring five goals.

  • Otterbein initiated the quarter and maintained their momentum, limiting the Scots to a single goal with only three shot attempts in the third quarter. The scoring was distributed among the trio of Ava Robey, Alyssa Glenn, and Rigel resulting in a total of four goals and expanding their lead by six points to conclude the quarter.

  • The slow 4th quarter saw a total of three goal and a total of 13 shot attempts to close out the game.
GIVE ME THE STAT LINES COACH:
  • Rigel reached a career peak in goals, capturing seven out of the 14 goals.

  • Setting another high for the team, Robey achieved a game-high of eight points, comprising four goals and four assists.

  • Alyssa Glenn added to the excitement and plowed down the house by clearing through multiple defenders on several occasions and kept turnovers low for the Cardinals.

  • Quoted by Adam Prescott as a "two-headed monster," Rigel and Robey asserted their dominance on the field, collectively scoring 11 out of the 14 goals, securing 10 ground balls, and attempting a total of 23 shots.

  • During free-position attempts, the Cards converted 4 out of 7 opportunities, while Alma managed only 1 out of 2.

BACK IN ACTION:

The team will take a week after and regroup next weekend to host DePauw. Game time starts at 4 p.m.
