Rigel and Robey Dominate, Women's Lax Victorious on Senior Night

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was played as a relatively tight and competitive game most of the way at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night, but the Cardinals took over late to find space and a 15-6 victory against Marietta in the regular-season finale.

Otterbein improves to 9-5 on the year and charts its best Ohio Athletic Conference record in program history in the process, ending the league slate with a 5-2 mark. Both of the losses came in the final minutes.

As a result, Otterbein claims the No. 3 seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament and will host Ohio Northern in a quarterfinal matchup this weekend. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

SENIOR NIGHT: HOW IT PLAYED OUT:
  • The game was deadlocked 2-2 after less than five minutes before Otterbein found a nice groove, ripping off a five-goal run that features two man-up scores from Rigel.

  • Marietta worked back to only trail 8-4 by halftime, and then slowly clawed within 9-6 by the end of the third quarter.

  • The game then saw no scoring whatsoever for roughly 10 minutes bridging into the fourth, until the Cardinals delivered a 6-0 run to end the game.

  • Robey tallied five assists in the final 5:14 on the clock, bumping to NINE on the evening to shatter her previous single-game record of six… set twice earlier this season.

BOX SCORE NOTABLES:
  • Rigel fittingly scored eight times on her Senior Night to match a career-high performance, moving to 196 points for her college run.|

  • Robey now has 53 helpers this season to further stretch her single-season record at Otterbein, now also leading the entire OAC.

  • Otterbein posted a 32-18 shot advantage and forced Marietta into committing 23 turnovers.

  • Both goalies – Maggie Nance and Abby May – each record nine saves in their respective nets.
