Otterbein Beats JCU, Wins Third Straight OAC Regular-Season Title

UNIVERSITY, Ohio – Three is never a crowd when it comes to winning trophies, and that rang true for the Otterbein women's tennis team on Friday afternoon with a 6-3 victory up at John Carroll.

The result helps give the Cardinals a third consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular-season title, with the team now assuming top seed in next week's postseason tournament.

Otterbein has now won 21-straight matches in the OAC regular season and is vying to get back into the NCAA Division III Championships. The group will play a semifinal match next Friday in Ada and then (hopefully) a title contest on Saturday.

After a quick shutout at Marietta earlier in the week, a clean doubles sweep furthered the cause up at JCU as the top-two Cardinal tandems of Erin Storrer/Olivia Eckels and Lillia Walter/Aubrey McMahon won fairly handily.

Julia Gillin and Rachelle Moses had to dig deep for their 8-7 triumph, coming in a 7-3 tiebreaker to hold off the pesky home duo of Kayley Gimbel and Caroline Chandler.

Storrer (6-2, 6-0) and Walter (6-2, 6-1) took care of business atop the singles board to finish unscathed in league play this year once again. Eckels worked herself to a 6-4, 6-4 decision to help capture a sixth point for the team as a whole.
