No. 15 volleyball knocks off BW, falls to Brits

BEREA, Ohio – On Saturday, the No. 15 Otterbein University volleyball team split a pair of matches at Baldwin Wallace. The Cardinals got a big five set win over conference foe BW before dropping a 3-0 decision to Albion College. 

The Cardinals played to two tight scores in the first two sets. Otterbein won the opener by a 25-23 margin. Tied at 23, kills from Chandler Crowell and Maddie Mergen secured the 25-23 win for the Cardinals. Crowell's 13 kills led Otterbein for the match, as the sophomore contributed four blocks. In the second set, Otterbein came away with a 27-25 win, rallying from a 25-24 deficit. A kill from Olivia Vitaz ended the set and pushed the Cardinals to a 2-0 lead. 

Baldwin Wallace responded by taking sets three and four by 25-18 scores, forcing a decisive fifth set. Otterbein went on a 5-0 run midway through the set, extending an 8-6 lead to a 13-6 advantage before ultimately winning, 15-7. 

Lexi Scott added 10 kills in the match. Ashley Kefauver's 22 digs led the defense, seeing Grace Ganz chip in with 16 digs. Vitaz added 23 assists and 14 digs, while Elise Adelman finished with 21 assists and 10 digs. 

As a team, Otterbein committed 23 service errors against the Yellow Jackets. 

After a long five-set match to begin the day, Otterbein fell to Albion in straight sets. Brooke Barb led the way with 12 kills, while Vitaz (12) and Adelman (13) paced the team in assists. Adelman had another 10-dig performance, as Kefauver's 12 were a team-high.

Otterbein returns home on Wednesday to continue OAC action. They will play Wilmington College at 7 p.m.
