Men's soccer remains unbeaten in OAC play, wins at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – As two regionally ranked squads battled in an OAC matchup, the Otterbein men's soccer team knocked off Wilmington College, 3-1. With the win over Wilmington, the Cardinals remain one of two unbeaten teams in the conference, improving to 3-0-1 in league play.

Heading into Wednesday's match, Otterbein was ranked fifth and Wilmington seventh in the latest United Soccer Coaches Regional Rankings.

After the teams played to a scoreless first half, Nick Isaac broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute with his fifth goal of the season. A foul was whistled on the Quakers in the box, setting up a penalty kick for the visitors. Isaac calmly buried the shot to the lower left corner, lifting Otterbein to an early lead.

The lead was short-lived, seeing the Quakers find the equalizer less than two minutes later. A redirected ball found the foot of Wilmington's Parker Burke, who launched a shot from the 18 off the crossbar and in.

Otterbein claimed the lead for good in the 67th minute. Drew Boettcher carved past a pair of Quaker defenders before firing off a shot from nearly 30 yards out. The left-footed strike one-hopped past the Wilmington keeper for a 2-1 lead. Nate Erre put the exclamation point on the win with a goal in the 75th minute. A throw-in from Xavier Stocks ended in a header from Erre finding the back of the net for Erre's second goal in three games.

Otterbein held the advantage in shots, 19-13 and corners, 8-3. In goal, Jason Villalobos tallied six saves.

The Cardinals return to Memorial Stadium on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match against Muskingum. It will serve as Senior Night with recognition taking place during pregame.
