Women's soccer reels in Muskies

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Delivering an incredible offensive performance Otterbein University women's soccer team picked up a 5-0 win at Muskingum University. The five goals are the most the Cardinals have scored this season, improving to 7-5-2, 3-3-1 in the OAC.

In the 37th minute, Otterbein got on the board, thanks to Gracie Tarquinto. Sophomore Natalie Smith played a ball into the middle of the box to Tarquinto, who buried the shot to the upper right of the goal, giving the visitors the early 1-0 lead. The assist was Smith's team-leading third of the season.

With just over one minute remaining in the first half, Smith and Tarquinto connected again, this time with Smith earning the goal. From the top of the box she received a pass from Tarquinto before striking with her left foot, off the goalkeeper's fingertips and in, pushing Otterbein to a 2-0 lead by halftime.

The Cardinals scored their third goal in the 54th minute. Awarded a free kick from midfield, Keaton Aspacher played a gorgeous ball into the back side of the box. Cami McCulty raced around the Muskie defense and one-touched the ball into the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage.

Alexis Pickerel scored her first collegiate goal in memorable fashion. Falling to her right from way outside the box, the sophomore launched a shot over the outstretched hands of the Muskingum goalkeeper for a four goal lead.

Otterbein's final strike came just moments later, when Rae Ehrbar's team-leading eighth goal of the season was scored. The senior found free space in the box and capitalized to cap off the stellar day for the Cardinals.

Ella Schwertfager and Caitlin Drew split time in goal, combining for just two saves in the clean sheet. Otterbein outshot the hosts, 15-2 and held an 8-1 edge in corners.

The Cardinals head to Ohio Northern on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Polar Bears.
