Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball dominates in home opener

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Backed by a 23 point performance from Kyla Irby, the Otterbein University women's basketball team rolled to an 80-54 win over La Roche in its home opener. Freshman Cameron Sparks continued her impressive start to the season, scoring 13 points and hauling in 15 rebounds for her first career double-double.

Despite a slow start to the game, Otterbein outscored the Redhawks 50-19 in the second half.

Irby and Sparks were two of four Cardinals to score in double figures Friday night. Irby was near-perfect from the foul line, connecting on 8 of 9 free throws. Of Sparks' 15 rebounds, six came on the offensive glass.

Freshman Kate Mosher added 12 points for Otterbein on an efficient 5 of 6 shooting night. Kiara Hudgins totaled 10 points while dishing out a team-high six assists. Abby Rawlings ended the night with five assists, seeing the duo combine for 11 of Otterbein's 21 assists on the night.

The hosts dominated the glass, outrebounding the Redhawks 54-27. Led by Sparks and Anna Waskiewicz, Otterbein scored 19 second chance points, limiting La Roche to just three. Otterbein also received 25 points from its bench compared to six from the visitors.

Otterbein heads up north for a pair of games in Michigan next weekend, beginning with a contest at Alma on Friday. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
