Women's Lacrosse opens 2025 season with loss to Transylvania (Ky.)

WESTERVILLE — Junior Ava Robey led the way with eight points as the Otterbein women's lacrosse team opened its 2025 schedule with an 11-9 loss to Transylvania (Ky.) on Saturday.

The Basics

Otterbein Stat Leaders
  • Robey's eight points came via three goals and a team-high five assists.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Glenn finished with five points on a team-high four goals to go with one assist while adding a team-best seven draw controls.
  • Freshman Emily Williams tallied two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Senior Nina Domanik added one goal.
  • Senior Maggie Nance played 55 of the 60 minutes in goal for the Cardinals and recorded 12 saves.
Game Highlights
  • First Quarter: Otterbein opened the scoring with a goal from Glenn, but the Pioneers tied the score with 8:55 remaining. The Cardinals closed out the quarter with goals from Glenn and Williams for a 3-1 lead going into the second. Robey assisted all three of Otterbein's goals in the quarter.
  • Second Quarter: The teams traded scores to open the frame, as goals from Robey and Domanik were each answered by goals from Transylvania to put Otterbein up 5-3 with 9:15 left. The Pioneers scored the next two goals to tie the score with three minutes remaining, but Otterbein took a 6-5 edge into halftime after a man-up goal from Glenn with 34 seconds left.
  • Third Quarter: The Cardinals scored the first two goals of the second half, getting scores from Robey and Glenn for an 8-5 lead with 4:47 left. Neither team scored for the remainder of the period, sending Otterbein into the final frame with that three-goal lead.
  • Fourth Quarter: Freshman Alayna Bogner replaced Nance in goal to start the fourth quarter and proceeded to give up a pair of goals as Transylvania pulled within one, 8-7. Nance returned to the goal afterwards, but the Pioneers continued to find the back of the net, scoring four more goals to make it a 6-0 run for an 11-8 lead with just 44 seconds remaining. Robey capped the scoring on a goal assisted by Glenn with 23 seconds left as Otterbein fell 11-9.
  • Key Team Stats: Transylvania out-shot Otterbein by a 30-23 margin, and the Pioneers finished with a 20-10 edge in ground balls. Otterbein won 12 of the 19 draw controls. Otterbein had 23 turnovers to 22 for Transylvania. 
Notables
  • Robey ranks third all-time at Otterbein in assists (73). Lauren Newkirk ranks second on the all-time list with 81. Robey has 55 goals and 128 points in her career.
  • Nance is a two-time OAC Goalkeeper of the Year and is Otterbein's all-time career leader in saves (463).
  • Head coach Brooke Delara is in her second year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 10-7 at the helm of the Cardinals.
  • The series between Otterbein and Transylvania is tied 4-4 dating back to 2015. The Cardinals had won three straight meetings, including a 14-5 victory in Lexington, Ky., last season, prior to Saturday.
