Men's Wrestling succeeds at Adrian (Mich.) Futures

ADRIAN, Mich. — The Otterbein men's wrestling team had lots of success at the Adrian (Mich.) Futures on Sunday, as eight Cardinals posted top-eight finishes in their respective weight classes. Junior Caiden Hooks and freshman Eli Cassady led the way with runner-up finishes.

The Basics Otterbein Individual Highlights
  • 184: Hooks placed second, going 3-1 in the event. After falling via 22-5 tech fall to Adrian's Trenton DiGenova, he defeated Heidelberg's Gavin Wickham by 16-6 major decision, and pinned Adrian's Jesus Bautista in just 48 seconds and Alma's Jacob Davis in 1:29.
  • 174: Cassady placed second, posting a 3-1 record. After an opening-round bye, he won by 18-0 technical fall over Alma's Blaise Armstead and defeated Case Western Reserve's Louka Babic by 15-8 decision in the semifinals. He lost to Chicago's Hutch Lynott via 15-0 technical fall in the championship match and rebounded with a win by no contest over Babic in the second-place match.
  • 197: Junior Matthew Bachie placed third, going 1-2. He was pinned by Heidelberg's Paul Wilson and Isaac Shively in the first and second rounds, respectively, before winning by forfeit in the third round.
  • 133: Sophomore Gabe Thacker placed fourth, posting a 3-2 record. He won by 9-6 decision over Heidelberg's Brenden Yob in the opening round and pinned Adrian's Jackson Ostrowski in 2:04 in the quarterfinals. He was pinned by Chicago's Zack Parisi in the semifinals before pinning Alma's Dominic Megdanoff in 2:09 in the consolation semifinals. He then was pinned by Adrian's Eugene Barrientes in the third-place match.
  • 149: Junior Owen Crabtree placed fourth, going 2-2. After an opening-round bye, he won by 6-5 decision over Ohio Northern's Ryan Foster. He then fell via 13-0 major decision to Heidelberg's Claude Buckmaster but defeated Adrian's Liam Totten by 6-3 decision in the consolation semifinals. He fell via 11-2 major decision to Ohio Northern's Aaron Turner in the third-place match.
  • 149: Junior Carter Mottley placed fifth with a 3-2 record. He opened with an 11-5 decision loss to Ohio Northern's Aaron Turner and then received a bye. He pinned Ohio Northern's Ryan Foster in 1:57 and won by 18-3 technical fall over Case Western Reserve's Robert Minden. He fell via 12-5 decision to Turner in the consolation semifinals but rebounded for an 18-0 technical fall win over Adrian's Liam Totten in the fifth-place match.
  • 285: Freshman Cooper McKean placed sixth, posting a 3-2 record. He pinned Adrian's Hugo Fernandez in just 33 seconds in the first round and then defeated Alma's Dominic Overway by 11-5 decision. He pinned Adrian's Vincent Kilroy in 35 seconds in the third round before falling by 2-0 decision to Ohio Northern's Hunter Probasco. He then lost via 7-3 decision to Adrian's Scott Smith.
  • 165: Freshman Radley Spencer placed eighth but was 0-3, receiving two advancements via byes.
