Trio of Cardinals post podium finishes to lead Men's Wrestling at John Summa Invitational

BEREA — Junior Caiden Hooks, freshman Eli Cassady and sophomore Gabe Thacker earned podium finishes to lead the Otterbein men's wrestling team to a 10th-place finish at the 38th annual John Summa Invitational at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday.

The Basics Otterbein Individual Highlights
  • 184: Hooks placed fourth and scored 15.5 team points. He opened with a 7-6 sudden victory decision win over Case Western's Mathew Gummere and proceeded to pin Thiel's Trenton Mead in 1:02. He fell via an 18-2 tech fall to Waynesburg's Jessie Orbin the semifinals but rebounded to pin Gummere in just 21 seconds in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place match, he fell to W&J's Bradyen Roscosky via 21-7 major decision.
  • 174: Cassady placed sixth and scored 9 team points. After receiving a bye, he won by 13-7 decision over Alfred State's Chris Herriman and proceeded to get a 13-7 decision win over Brockport's EJ Bonet in the quarterfinals. He was pinned by West Liberty's Oliver Byerly in the semifinals and fell via injury default to Baldwin Wallace's Brandon Burkhart in the consolation semifinals. He took a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.

After a 17-1 tech fall loss to Baldwin Wallace's Jaden Hinton in the opening round, he received a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket.
