Softball splits doubleheader with Wittenberg

WESTERVILLE — Junior Emma Calkins and sophomore Maggie McVicker hit home runs as the Otterbein softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Wittenberg on Wednesday. The Cardinals opened with a 10-7 win before falling 10-1 in five innings in the second game.

  • Wittenberg broke through in the top of the fifth with six runs.
  • Trailing 6-1, Otterbein tied the score in the bottom of the fifth, which was highlighted by a three-run homer from McVicker and RBI single from Calkins.
  • The Cardinals took a 10-6 edge with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, getting one on an RBI single from Wilkins and three more on a homer from Calkins.
  • The Tigers plated a run in the top of the seventh, but Otterbein held on for the 10-7 victory.
