Softball tallies 3 HRs in DH loss at No. 25 Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — The Otterbein softball team hit a combined three home runs but dropped both games of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at No. 25 Baldwin Wallace on Friday. The Yellow Jackets took a narrow 2-1 win in game one and added an 8-3 victory in game two.

Otterbein Stat Leaders - Game 1
  • Junior Emma Calkins tallied two hits, including a home run, to go with one RBI and one run.
  • Junior Caitlin Wilkins and senior Isa Lewis had one hit each. Lewis added a steal to her stat line.
  • Freshman Addison Yoder got the pitching start for the Cardinals. She allowed two runs on six hits and four walks while recording one strikeout over 4.2 innings.
Game 1 Highlights - Baldwin Wallace 2, Otterbein 1
  • After a scoreless first three innings, Baldwin Wallace plated a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single.
  • The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
  • After being held to three hits through six innings, Otterbein got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh courtesy of a leadoff homer from Calkins. Baldwin Wallace got the next three Cardinal batters out to secure the win.
  • Baldwin Wallace out-hit Otterbein by a 7-4 margin. Both teams were error-free.
Otterbein Stat Leaders - Game 2
  • Lewis tallied a home run and a double to go with two RBIs and one run.
  • Sophomore Maggie McVicker posted two hits, including a home run, to go with one RBI and one run.
  • Junior Rachel Miller added two hits and one run.
  • Wilkins, senior Chloe Clark, freshman Bri Dowell and graduate student Caroline Heller had one hit each. Clark's hit was a double.
Game 2 Highlights - Baldwin Wallace 8, Otterbein 3
  • The Yellow Jackets plated a run in each of the first two innings and added five more in the third for a 7-0 lead.
  • Otterbein got on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth. Lewis and McVicker hit back-to-back one-out solo home runs.
  • The Cardinals added a run in the top of the fifth via a two-out RBI double from Lewis, getting Otterbein within four, 7-3.
  • Baldwin Wallace plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to cap the scoring.
  • Baldwin Wallace out-hit Otterbein by a 16-10 margin. Otterbein committed one error to Baldwin Wallace's none.
Notables 
  • Heller has 145 hits, 35 doubles and 81 RBIs in her Otterbein career. She ranks fifth all-time at Otterbein in doubles, ninth in RBIs and 12th in hits.
  • Lewis has 99 hits, 57 RBIs and 30 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Named the OAC Rookie of the Year in 2024, sophomore Kennedi Endsley has 70 hits and 29 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Calkins' home run was her second of the season and the sixth of her career.
  • Lewis' home run was her third of the season and the fifth of her career.
  • McVicker's home run was the third of her career, all coming this season.
  • Entering Friday, McVicker was tied for seventh in the OAC in RBIs (24). Heller ranked seventh in batting average (.460), and Endsley ranked fifth in steals (13) and tied for fifth in runs (30). In the circle, freshman Evie Lehman ranked ninth in strikeouts (34).
  • Head coach Bruce Anderson is in his fourth year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 66-66-1 at the helm of the Cardinals.
