Baseball drops doubleheader at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD — The Otterbein baseball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Muskingum on Saturday. Senior Charlie Greenlief led the way for the Cardinals with a combined five hits in the twinbill.

The Basics
  • Records: Otterbein (14-22 overall, 3-13 OAC), Muskingum (26-10 overall, 9-7 OAC)
  • Venue: Mose Morehead Field - New Concord, Ohio

  • Muskingum opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second and one more in the third for a 3-0 lead.
  • Otterbein got on the board in the top of the fourth after Ullom drew a one-out walk. Greenlief followed with an RBI double.
  • The Muskies scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the sixth for a 5-1 lead. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
  • Muskingum out-hit Otterbein by a 10-9 margin. Otterbein committed one error to Muskingum's none.

  • Greenlief tallied three hits, including a double, to go with one run.
  • Boggs added two hits and two runs.
  • Graduate student Jamie Perebzak posted two hits, including a double, to go with one RBI.
  • Mabry recorded one hit, two RBIs and one run.
  • Taylor tallied one hit and one RBI.
  • Freshman Andrew Kitts got the start on the mound and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks while recording five strikeouts over the first four innings.
Game 2 Highlights - Muskingum 9, Otterbein 5
  • After Muskingum scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, Otterbein tied the score on an RBI single from Perebzak in the top of the third.
  • The Cardinals added four more runs in the top of the fourth for a 5-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Mabry and RBI bunt single from McAninch followed by an RBI single from Taylor.
  • Muskingum came right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to get within two, 5-3.
  • The Muskies tied the score at 5-5 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After a scoreless seventh, Muskingum put together a four-run eighth to take a 9-5 lead en route to the win.
  • Otterbein out-hit Muskingum by an 11-8 margin. Otterbein committed three errors to Muskingum's two.
Notables 
  • Named the OAC Player of the Year and CSC Second Team Academic All-America in 2024, Perebzak is Otterbein's all-time leader in RBIs (194). He ranks third all-time at Otterbein in hits (233), third in doubles (50) and is tied for seventh in home runs (25).
  • Ullom has 122 hits, 27 doubles and 52 RBIs in his Otterbein career.
  • Entering Saturday, Ullom was tied for the OAC lead in hits (53), tied for seventh in doubles (10) and tied for 10th in runs (33) on the season. Perebzak and James were tied for fourth in home runs (5).
  • Head coach George Powell is in his 26th year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 622-442-1 at the helm of the Cardinals. He is two wins away from tying his mentor and former Otterbein legend Dick Fishbaugh (624) for most coaching wins in program history and fifth all-time in OAC history. Powell is a six-time OAC Coach of the Year honoree and has coached the Cardinals to three OAC regular-season championships and six OAC Tournament titles. The program has been led by just two head coaches over the past 60 years.
