Perebzak breaks career RBI record as Baseball drops DH at Marietta

MARIETTA — Graduate student Jamie Perebzak broke the program's all-time career RBIs record as the Otterbein baseball team dropped a pair of tight games in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Marietta on Wednesday. The Pioneers won 5-3 in the opener and 7-6 in the second game.

  • Trailing 4-0, Otterbein scored a run in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Perebzak had an RBI groundout in the third, and James scored on an error in the fourth. Perebzak added a solo home run in the fifth to take ownership of the program's all-time career RBIs record, surpassing the 189 set by Jim Allen (1986-89).
  • The Pioneers extended their lead to 5-3 with a run in the bottom of the fifth, and neither team scored the rest of the way.
  • Otterbein out-hit Marietta by a 10-5 margin. Otterbein committed two errors to Marietta's three.

  • James got Otterbein out to an early lead with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning.
  • Marietta answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and added four in the second for a 6-2 lead.
  • Otterbein closed the gap to 6-3 courtesy of James' solo homer in the fourth inning.
  • After a scoreless next three innings, Otterbein tied the score in the top of the eighth. Brown hit a 2-RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Marietta loaded the bases via a single, error and walk. The next batter hit a walk-off RBI single.
  • Marietta out-hit Otterbein by a 12-8 margin. Otterbein committed two errors to Marietta's three.
Notables 
  • Named the OAC Player of the Year and CSC Second Team Academic All-America in 2024, Perebzak is Otterbein's all-time leader in RBIs (190). He ranks third all-time at Otterbein in hits (223), is tied for third in doubles (47) and is tied for seventh in home runs (25).
  • Ullom has 114 hits, 26 doubles and 51 RBIs in his Otterbein career.
  • Entering Wednesday, Ullom ranked second in the OAC in hits (41) and third in doubles (10) on the season. Perebzak was tied for second in the OAC in home runs (4) and tied for 10th in runs (25), and Greenlief was tied for third in hits (35) and tied for sixth in RBIs (24).
  • Head coach George Powell is in his 26th year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 620-437-1 at the helm of the Cardinals. He is four wins away from tying Dick Fishbaugh (624) for most coaching wins in program history and fifth all-time in OAC history. Powell is a six-time OAC Coach of the Year honoree and has coached the Cardinals to three OAC regular-season championships and six OAC Tournament titles.
