Esports kicks off 2025 fall campaign

The Otterbein University Esports team saw its Overwatch 2, Smash and Valorant squads kick off the new season over the last week. 

Starting the season Monday, the Overwatch team competed against Messiah University, falling 3-0. In their National Association of Collegiate Esports opener, the Cardinals struggled in the first two games, but battled back in the third. Ultimately, Messiah won the third game as well. Senior captain Aiden Bruntz who had a promising showing in the first series playing the Tank Role for Otterbein. 

Two days later, the Valorant team fell to Messiah 2-0 in the team's NACE season opener . Map 1 on Sunset went the way of Messiah by a 13-1 margin, while Map 2– Otterbein's pick – was a 13-5 win for Messiah. Game one was led by freshman Heltsin Hyacinthe (9/14/3) and game two was led by junior Cayden Lassiter (14/15/2).

Rounding out the week, Smash fell to a tough Lawrence Tech squad, 2-0. In both matches, they lost 12 stocks to three. Sophomore Joshua Hill secured a stock in both games for the Cardinals.
