Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Complete team effort leads No. 20 volleyball over Owls

WESTERVILLE – Improving to 12-1 on the season, the No. 20 Otterbein University volleyball team made quick work of Kenyon College, winning in straight sets. This is the third straight match the Cardinals have won via sweep, and ninth this season.

With plenty of players seeing time, the Cardinals were led by Brooke Barb's seven kills and .600 attack percentage. Freshman Madison Lacy led the way with 19 assists and Ashley Kefauver's 10 digs were a team-best.

Leading 6-4 in the first set, the hosts went on a 6-0 run to build an eight point lead over the Owls. Later in the set, Otterbein once again utilized a large run – this one a 5-0 one – to lead 22-9. Scoring the final three points of the set, kills from Emerson Baum, Chandler Crowell and Lexi Scott pushed Otterbein to a 25-10 victory.

Another 6-0 run highlighted the middle set, inflating Otterbein's cushion to 19-11. Four of Barb's seven kills came in that stretch, including three consecutive. Maintaining the momentum throughout the remainder of the set, a kill from Addison Matovich gave the hosts a 25-16 win and a two sets to none lead.

The story was all Otterbein in the final set, exploding to a 15-3 lead. Bailee Toadvine served up three aces to help vault the Cardinals to a sizable advantage. As a team, Otterbein finished with 13 aces, courtesy of seven different players. Toadvine and Elise Adelman's three apiece paced the Cardinals.

As a team, Otterbein swung at a .379 mark and limited Kenyon to a .052 clip.

On Friday, the Cardinals head to Ohio Northern for a pair of non-conference matches. Otterbein will play Transylvania at 4:30 p.m., followed by Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m.
