Menge's big day not enough against OWU

WESTERVILLE – In its 2025 season debut, the Otterbein University football team dropped a 65-28 decision to Ohio Wesleyan University.

Owen Menge recorded nearly 300 all-purpose yards in the home opener. The senior led the receivers, hauling in a team-high 90 yards on three catches. Menge was the prime kickoff returner, recording 209 yards – highlighted by a 75 yard return.

Brayden Bayles was 11 for 20 for 183 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Jayson Walker brought in five for 76 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Otterbein was led by sophomore Damar Anderson's 10 total tackles. Both Ahmed Al Ani and Ausar Imani finished with eight tackles each.

Otterbein scored its first touchdown of the day on its first drive of the second quarter. A 40-yard strike from Bayles to Menge put the Cardinals at the OWU 10. On a 4th and goal from the one, Troy Montgomery powered through the Ohio Wesleyan defense to get the hosts on the board. Braylon Balandra's first of four PATs was good to cap off the drive.

With 1:12 to play before halftime, the Cardinals struck again thanks to a 48-yard find from Bayles to Walker. In the third, a designed run for Bayles gave Otterbein its third TD of the afternoon – a 7-yard rush. Otterbein's final score came on the first play of the final period – another 1-yard rush by Montgomery.

Next Saturday, the Cardinals open OAC action at Marietta for a night game. Kickoff against the Pioneers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
